Professor Bart Criel – Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp Belgium. In a keynote address on ‘Potential of Community Health Insurance (CHI) in Low-Income Countries on the road to Universal Health Coverage: a mixed picture’ Dr. Bart Criel, a Professor at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Antwerp in Belgium presented a quick overview of CHI as they have developed in SSA over the last 20 years. The keynote drew from the history of CHI in Africa and also elaborated on the historical perspective of the CHIs in Belgium and drew lessons for health financing policy, moving forward.
