As the world is emerging from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) development agenda, and prepares itself to embark on Universal Health Coverage (UHC), in Uganda efforts to prepare the country for this transition are taking shape and gathering momentum. Key agencies of government and other sectors whose role it is to deliver on health are engaged in discussions regarding their roles and potential contributions to the achievement of UHC. At the National Consultation workshop for the Health Sector Development Plan, Universal Health Coverage took centre-stage with several presentations and discussion sessions dedicated to it. Associate Professor Freddie Ssengooba, the SPEED Principal Investigator and Team Leader at Makerere University gave highlights of the Universal Health Coverage research agenda whose implementation will be spear-headed by research institutions, including Makerere University School of Public Health. His presentations, which was part of a panel discussion was made before a break away session that discussed the research agenda in-depth.
