On 12th December 2018, Uganda joined the rest of the world to commemorate the day for Universal health coverage. Mr.Moses Kirigwajjo –Programms Officer at Uganda National Health Consumer’s Organization (UNHCO) was invited by NTV for an expert opinion on the health care package that would be required to achieve UHC under the proposed National Insurance scheme.
Moses emphasized the review of the current national minimum health care package (NMHCP) which comprise of health promotion and disease prevention, maternal and child health, control of communicable diseases and control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). Well aware that 75% of the diseases are preventable; the health care orientation is still inclined on clinical care. This makes the achievement of UHC complex where multi-sectoral collaboration is instrumental. Listen to Moses’ views here
